Smart Phone Independence

"There is no greater sign of personal mediocrity than compulsive smart phone usage".

Those words hit me. There is so much truth there. But even after that my usage didn't change. Because I was approaching it all wrong. I tried deleting all the apps and doing all the basic self-help recommendations (meditation, workout, etc.). Instead of understanding WHY.

What was there to be found outside of this compulsive smartphone usage. I treated smartphone usage as something BAD. Like many things in life, this is how society has conditioned us to think.

The solution always lies in understanding Why something is being done.

The mind has become conditioned to open this device and consume information as soon as it senses a hint of boredom.

Since a month, I've turned my iPhone into a dumb-phone. I did this by changing all of the settings on it. No more YouTube or Twitter, Reddit, no social media apps.

I'm using this blog to write about my journey and how life is different. It will be a place for me to reference in the future. I do write a lot more stuff locally (stuff I don't share) but the point of sharing this is to hear others thoughts. The main value of the internet is its ability for us to connect with other human beings.

I don't expect to see some super-human enlightenment type of changes. But there is a direct impact on how I spend time. Instead of scrolling, listening to some guy talk. I'm going to be writing, reading or figuring out what to do.
