Why write?

Why do I want to write? I don't know why.

There's no good reason, and in the end it is doesn't matter. Because nothing does.

I was listening to David Perells podcast "How I write" and I enjoy listening to the process that each of these authors use. There is no 'right' way to do it. There is no compulsion to use a specific style, language, tone, words.

It's about finding out for yourself. Why you're writing. What do you like and what do you not. Are you writing for money? That's fine. Are you writing for something more? That's fine too.

There's not even a compulsion to write for a reader. There is no compulsion to make it simple, playful or even enjoyable to the reader. None of it matters. You can write for yourself, you can write for readers. Nothing matters.

If nothing matters, then why write? There's no reason to. I write because there is something about the process that gives me joy. That allows me to be lost in the writing.
